IT'S HERE, IT'S HERE.....ONE WORLD ONE HEART 2011

For the 5th and final year......Lisa Swifka of A Whimsical Bohemian's 2011 One World One Heart Blogger Event

One World One Heart is a worldwide event for bloggers. It allows all those who blog a chance to meet and form connections with those whom they may not have otherwise met from EVERYWHERE...all over the world. In the past 4 years this event has grown to over 1,000 participants with lasting friendships (and even one love connection) formed along the way...whoo hoo!!! Lisa says 'Think of it as a GIGANTIC open house allowing you to travel without ever leaving your home........going from blog to blog (in various countries) seeing the wonder each one has created and meeting all the fabulous people behind those blogs'. AND... each blogger who participates will offer a "door prize or sometimes prizes"....just for stopping by, saying hello and seeing their world. It's really easy and FUN!

So with all that said, here's me... and my world!!

I'm Ardith, the CheekyRadish...
I live in a world reflective of me... a 'painted lady' house,
full of interesting things, like antique (and a few modern) dolls, quirky photos,  and interesting vignettes. I've had the same handsome husband for 30 years,
3 beautiful grown children, whom for the most part are just delightful (they have their moments...(you know)

and 2 little doglets.
I love sailing, travel, and creating things. All sorts of things.

A few years ago, I bought the 'Learn to Knit in one Day' Book'... they lied, it took more than one day. But I did indeed learn to knit and became kind of obsessed with it. Knitting like a crazy woman, everything from scarves to sweaters, to purses!  I especially have enjoyed the felting aspect, so My ONE WORLD ONE HEART gift, is a 8" x 6" purse with hand knitted, felted flowers adorning it.
A little something to brighten your winter days! Leave me a comment, so I can hop over to your blog, AND a way to contact you as I'll be choosing a winner with the random number generator on Feb. 17th.

Hope you've enjoyed a peek into my world, come on back if you'd like!!I'd love to have you be a follower!!

TOILET AND OTHER RAMBLINGS......

I told you all that I was working out at the gym.... well, my trainer (does that not sound cool???) is killing me.  He's working me to death, which frankly is probably pretty easy for him as I am in not so tip top shape.

Anyway, he's working my thighs.... and they hurt.  Like Hell. Like stairs (of which have I mentioned are prevalent in my house) are killers... but the real killer..........is................... the toilet........ or the USE of it.

See, ladies and gentlemen, you don't realize how to use said thighs to sit, and even worse to STAND... I need those handle things elderly people have....I'm feeling elderly let me tell ya.

I put off going there until I HAVE TO... and even worse, I find myself hanging out in there, avoiding standing...ugh... who knew????? Is this too much information? Maybe.....

So, moving on,  I'm gearing up for the ONE HAND ONE HEART extravaganza beginning Sunday. Got my 'give away'... actually might even have two things... I'm on a roll!! Amazing what you can accomplish when you are unable to get up!!!

Stay tuned!

thinking: about doing some laundry.

enjoying: the sunshine!.

wondering: why I'M watching a football game???

On another note, in the house of 'cooking' men, this week we are featuring CHILI, by Corbin... let me tell you, this boy can make a mean chili. It'll blow your head off, which I can use, because mine is always suffering the ill effects of something....

I know you are wondering if I EVER cook.... well, not if I can help it.

Seriously, I am trying to stimulate the economy by ordering out as much as I can. Geesh... we ALL need to do our part!

oh, and one other thing... sign up to follow me, or leave me a comment - I'd like to know who's around!

YES, I DID IT....

Mark was up to his old tricks in the kitchen. He was cooking. And what a cook he is. This time it was a delightful pork loin and his famous 'taters...which are NORMALLY done on the grill. But it wasn't grill weather. Not even close. So he improvised in the black cast iron 'spider' that we inherited from my grandma. I'm thinking of the chicken she fried in it, and almost can't continue... what I wouldn't give for some of that.

ANYWAY....

It was delish. And, I ate, and ate and ate. This came on the heals of the Dr. office calling to tell me my cholesterol was just a bit to high, not bad, but not perfect. Took that to heart didn't I, whaling down on the potatoes.

But, I knew it was cool... I had 'the appointment'. So I went to my 'appointment'. It was diagnostic. And I lived thru it.

I've officially started working with a trainer at the local gym. Frankly, I don't think I'm going to like it, it involves sweating, and pain, neither of which is my fave. But, I'm giving it a try. And, of course I did have to go out and get all the correct accoutrements. It's all about how you look....RIGHT????

UGH.....

wearing: jeans and a Lido Beach sweatshirt.

feeling: lethargic.

wanting: a vacation.

wondering: why some things have to be so damn difficult?

IT'S COMING.........

ONE WORLD, ONE HEART, that is!!

What is it, you ask? Well, 'borrowed' right from the horse's mouth here you go ~

One World One Heart is a worldwide event for bloggers only. It gives all those who blog a chance to meet and mingle and form connections with those they may not have otherwise met from all over the world. In the past 4 years this event has grown to over 1,000 participants with lasting friendships (and even one love connection) formed along the way. Think of it as a GIGANTIC open house allowing you to travel without ever leaving your home........going from blog to blog(in various countries) seeing the wonder each one has created and meeting all the fabulous people behind those blogs. As a bonus each blogger participant will offer up a "door prize or prizes"....just for dropping by, saying hello and seeing their world. It's really that easy.

It really is a cool thing. I joined the fun last year, and found so many cool bloggers that I continue to follow. It's a great way to connect with interesting people from all over the world.

The 'Queen' of this WONDERFUL event is LISA. She is A Whimsical Bohemian, storyteller, and artist. How interesting are those descriptions alone?

I haven't decided what I'm going to give yet, and you know you can't wait to see... it could just be something you can not live without!!

So don't be a dullard.... join the fun! You WILL meet some fascinating people and you just may win something absolutely fabulous!!

AGING.....

HATE IT. Period.

So, I ran out of moisturizer, and bought some rather expensive stuff the other day and have been slathering it on. I kinda thought maybe it was making a difference.

The other morning, I was putting on makeup and noticed my eyelid looked a bit red, and kinda itched? Or did it? Didn't think anything more, and this morning, it was bbbaaacccckkkkk.... I put some steroid cream I had for another itch on my leg...which actually was a pretty funny story.

My good friend, who works in the medical field scared the daylights out of me, after I complained of a 'mole' on my leg that itched. She was fairly certain, this was a REALLY bad thing, and I had visions of being legless, or dead from it. I really like my Dr. but he is SO hard to get in to. I had to wait a few days...didn't they get it? I was terrified, this 'mole' that I'd had for a year or two, was killing me.

I finally got to the Dr. he said it was nothing, but agreed to remove it for biopsy. He did note that I had sun damage...HELLO.... I was a teenager in the 70's...ever hear of baby oil and iodine? Anyway, I had a couple stitches which he said I should come back the next week to have removed. I asked if my husband could do it, we were heading to Florida. He looks at me, cocks his eyebrow and says... so you can enhance your sun damage. Point taken. ANYWAY, I went home, somewhat relieved that the Dr. was right and my friend was wrong. Melanoma was most likely NOT on my leg.

So the Dr's office called, the nurse said it was.... PSORIASIS....what? One tiny little spot? Isn't that something you get everywhere? Well, she said, not necessarily, and they would give me a steroid cream to put on the spot if it bothered me again, in spite of the fact that it was cut out. And, okay I did ask if the steroid cream would make me sprout a mustache. After a small pregnant pause, she said, no, it wasn't THAT strong. (She lacks a sense of humor).

So, that was the cream I put on my itchy eyelid. I can't say it feels better... I'm afraid it is caused by my new face moisturizer, that for sure was making me look younger, and that I spent a fortune on....

So, with that all confessed, I need someone to pay for a little nip/tuck. Mark won't... he doesn't want me to look like Michael Jackson.
Did I mention a nose job???? NO, I just want a little facial tightening!

I just MIGHT have to get a real job to fund this...

THE CHAIR....

We didn't kill each other.... close...but we resisted the urge. Here's the chair!!
Looks pretty sweet huh? Kinda reminds me of Mary Engelbreit's 'Life is like a chair of Bowlies' chair ~ doesn't it? I really like it in spite of the great effort and aggravation. Like, ripping stitches, so NO it wasn't all fun....
And, Mark working hard, can't you just feel the love???

After we finished, I did make a couple pillows to match!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Looking back,as we say good-bye to 2010....

I started the year finally facing the fact that I needed to address my ear ache problem and learned that I am basically allergic to everything I come in contact with. And, that I do indeed have hearing loss..... so WHAT has become a seriously overused word in my vocab..

I got a spiffy new washer and dryer... loaded with more cycles than I could ever understand, or use. We tackled the dining room floor and redid the coat closet. It was an awful mess...serious.

March came along with birthdays galore, my girls, my husband and my mom. So I did a lot of shopping! I got RIFed from my job.

We began readying the boat for the season. Scarlett had an art show in Chicago and we got together with our great friends the Wright's for a night of too much fun.

May rolled in with a fun girl's weekend at a friend's lake house. Actually it was only one night....couldn't have lived through another!! Launched the boat for the longest Mother's Day on record. It was cold, and took forever! Co-hosted a bridal shower for a close friend's son & daughter in law. Got re-hired for my job. Saw the tragic death of a sweet girl of whom I was fond. Too much senseless youth death in our area.

June rolled in with school being over, a wedding, and a girls week at a different lake house than the afore mentioned one. Had a seriously nasty storm that caused a lot of damage, including breaking my street lamp. I was sad. We got a replacement globe, but it's just not as cool...The Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup and we all celebrated it! We sailed a LOT. We were delighted with the fact we were having a hot Chicago summer. Moving on in our floor projects, we repainted the checkerboard floor in a black and white. I like it. A LOT. Finished off the month of June in Houston where they were feeling the effects of a Hurricane. It was fun to be there with Mark anyway.

July rolled in with the purchase of a new car, a Land Rover. I totally love it, now that I MORE or LESS know what all the buttons are for. We celebrated Corbin's birthday on the 4th. Spent a lot of time on the boat, enjoying the heat and the sun. Found out that Clementine (our yorkie) has a nasty disease that will eventually kill her. (She's doing great now, with the drug combo that I keep tweaking). Saw Sting at Ravinia... ran off with him.

August came rolling in with the reality that I wasn't going back to work. They decided no job sharing for me, so I resigned. Not to sound like the spoiled brat I can be, but it just doesn't fit my life at the moment to work full time. We celebrated our 30th anniversary. Went to Ravinia with the fam to see Counting Crows ~ love it there. It was a most fun evening! Enjoyed the Air & Water Show from the lake, with the family on the boat. Had another FUN time with our good friends the Wrights. This time in Chicago, boating, drinking, eating, laughing ~ love those guys! Spent a LOT of time on the boat. Jessica decided to go back to school, and began her 1st semester, we were extremely proud of her for getting straight A's.

September came in and what a month. We started with my birthday, which I am not so excited by, so that's that. I went to a taping of Oprah, it's really hardly worth mentioning. It was the worst most boring show she's ever done. DISAPPOINTMENT.

Next came our high school class reunion, which was so much fun. We saw people we hadn't seen since we graduated, as well as friends we see all the time. It was an evening to remember.

We had made plans to head to the Amalfi coast for our anniversary, but had to cancel that trip when our son was in a serious, life threatening accident. We spent that week at a trauma hospital instead. Thankfully he recovered and is doing quite well. Really pretty much back to normal. I spent the next couple months being referred to as Nurse Ratched. A role I could relate to. We did manage to steal some time for the boat, before the accident and after we knew he was going to be okay. It was a catharsis for us to be out on the water.

October came with the discovery of a litter of stray kittens, that I eventually trapped and gave to someone to have as pets! What an angel that woman is. We also trapped the mother, who is feral, and had her spayed. We sailed more than one might have thought, as it was WARM!! Like one day it hit 85!! Sadly, we saw the sailing season come to an end and sailed the boat up to where we dry dock it. Scarlett had another Chicago art show.

November took us back to the year of the floor. We redid the floors in the living room and family room. It was a job we are both glad is over. It necessitated redecorating, which somehow necessitated new furniture in the family room! I am really pleased with the outcome. All this was accomplished before Thanksgiving, which we hosted at our house, which was done and put back together in time. Not a lot of time, but IN TIME!!!

We saw the death of our sweet Maltese, Phoebe, who was with us for 15 years. She was a very good girl, and I miss her.

December found us heading to Florida to attend my father in law's wedding. It was cold there, of course, so no beach time for us. We also headed down to visit an old friend, and enjoyed hanging out with her. Came home to the realization that Christmas was looming so I spent the rest of the month shopping!!! Christmas came and went and we all enjoyed a bevy of presents and family fun.

We had a small party to ring in the new year last night. I'm still recovering. I'm kinda lethargic today. Hope this isn't an indication of my activity level for 2011!!

Whew... it was a year, full of laughter, tears, terror and ultimately happiness. Now, onto 2011... hope it's one without tears and terror.
